Caves of Lorestan Province
The classification of nine caves in Lorestan province, including Vagh-e-Saat, Kalder, Yafteh, Ghamari, Manu 1, Manu 2, Gavmir, Samsa, and Mardarizh, was conducted with the aim of managing, protecting, and sustainably utilizing the caves.
In the thirtieth meeting of the National Speleology Working Group of Iran, in addition to the classification of the caves of Lorestan province, it was decided to establish a database of Iranian caves in the country's biodiversity database,

According to the guidelines for the protection and utilization of caves, nine caves in Lorestan province, after evaluating their conservation importance and examining physical, social, geological, archaeological, water resources, biodiversity, tourism, and other effective indicators, were reviewed and initially classified in the eighth meeting of the technical committee of the National Speleology Working Group of Iran, and their final classification was approved in the thirtieth meeting of the National Speleology Working Group of Iran.
Vagh-e-Saat Cave
Location: Dorud County
Features: This mysterious spring is called Vagh-e-Saat (Time and Hour) because it naturally cuts off and connects at specific intervals.
Kalder Cave
Location: Khorramabad County
Features: One of the most important ancient caves in Iran, where artifacts from the Paleolithic period have been discovered. Stone tools and human remains found in this cave date the habitation to more than 63,000 years ago.
Yafteh Cave
Location: Khorramabad County
Features: This cave has remnants of life in the late Paleolithic era and, therefore, is of great importance in the studies of Near Eastern and European archaeology. One of the oldest records of the use of jewelry made of shells and teeth has been found in this cave, which is about 35,000 years old.
Ghamari Cave
Location: Khorramabad County
Features: The tools obtained from Ghamari Cave are attributed to the Mousterian culture. This cave is one of the earliest settlements in the Zagros. Special characteristics of this period include triangular spearheads, side blades, which are almost three times more prevalent than spearheads, and other tools in the form of simple engraving pens, which are less common.
Manu 1 and Manu 2 Caves
Location: Dorud County
Features: These two caves are located in a historical area, and the remains of stone tools have been found in them. Their environment is also a habitat for animal species.
Gavmir Cave
Location: Zagheh City
Features: A cave as large as Ali-Sadr Cave in Hamedan. Around this cave, flat and sedimentary stones are arranged, and it has a spring that reaches a depth of 10 meters in the spring and dries up from late summer to mid-winter.
Samsa Cave
Location: Alashtar County
Features: Most of the stones of the buildings and important artifacts of Alashtar or the tombstones have been prepared from this place.
